Esther Indich, OTR, CHT has been a practicing occupational therapist for over 13 yrs. She graduated from SUNY Health Science Center of Brooklyn in 1998, with a Bachelors of Science in Occupational Therapy. She achieved her Certified Hand Therapy (CHT) credentials in 2003 and is one of less than 60 CHT's in Manhattan and one of less than 5,300 CHT's worldwide.
In addition to her extensive clinical experience in hospital, in- and -out-patient environments, and private practice settings, Esther is also actively involved in community and peer education. She has been a guest lecturer at SUNY Downstate, trained colleagues on therapy techniques, lectured on injury prevention and management to community groups, and contributed to articles in publications such as NY Arthritis Reporter.
Esther remains up-to-date in current treatment techniques and new research findings through attending continuing education conferences, maintaining her membership to the American Society for Hand Therapy (ASHT) and the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), and by studying professional publications.
To ensure the best patient care, Esther works closely with surgeons and M.D.s, collaborating on patient care, doing procedures in their offices, and honing her skills by observing clinical techniques.
A CHT, or Certified Hand Therapist, is a therapist who has earned a specialized certification by completing over 4,000 hours of upper-extremity treatment and passing a rigorous certification exam.
Being treated by a CHT assures patients of his or her therapist's advanced level of competency and professionalism, and extensive knowledge of intricate anatomy. In addition, a CHT has a mastery of the complexity of upper extremity surgeries and their treatment protocols.
In addition, in order to maintain certification, a CHT is required to pursue continuing education in order to keep abreast of current therapy practices.
